How to prepare.
A little prep makes a big difference in how comfortable your wax is and how clean the result looks.
- Let it grow. Aim for about a quarter inch, roughly the length of a grain of rice, which is usually two to three weeks since your last shave. If it is too short, the wax cannot grip it.
- Do not shave in between. I know it is tempting, but the wax needs something to hold onto. Shaving resets the clock.
- Exfoliate a day or two before, gently, not the day of. It helps lift the hair and keeps ingrowns down.
- Plan around your cycle if you can. Skin is often more sensitive right before and during your period, so a few days after tends to feel better.
- Come comfortable. A quick shower beforehand is nice but not required, and loose clothing is your friend afterward.
- Skip a lot of caffeine right before if you are nervous, since it can heighten sensitivity. Some people take an over the counter pain reliever beforehand, though most find they do not need to.
